14 They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, Saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ When there is no peace.
In today’s world, we are constantly striving for peace. Much effort is put into the peace process, and people pray for “world peace.”
We live in a world that is at total unrest, and desperate for peace. World leaders hold summits, peace conferences, sign pacts and treaties, seek disarmament, all without success.
The United Nations touts peace, but is a monumental failure.
Despite man’s best efforts, he has not obtained peace. In fact, Jesus says that there WILL be wars and rumors of wars.
Matthew 24:6–7 (NKJV)
6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
The truth is, peace cannot happen at the hands of man. Quite simply, there can be no peace among men, as long as there is conflict between man and God. The world has not seen peace since Adam and Eve sinned. Christmas carolers sing of peace on earth, but they don’t tell us where. In fact, I think the most amazing thing about getting arrested for disturbing the peace, is that you found any peace at all. We can; however, obtain a personal peace, but only by making peace with God. This only happens by surrendering to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Once you allow Christ to have control of your life, you will have peace.
As for world peace, there will be none until Christ returns. Therefore, when we pray for world peace, we are actually praying for the return of Christ. I wonder how many people have ever considered that, or even understand it? If we truly want peace, we must also want Christ’s return, and we need to be ready for it (it can happen at any time). His coming means peace.
Are you ready for peace, are you ready for the return of Christ? Do you watch for it, and pray for it? We should. “Even so, Come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev. 21:20)
