The message deals with the rebellious nature of false teachers. This post contains an audio recording of the sermon, plus my sermon notes. Please note that the notes are not a full transcript. Jude 8-11

Jude 8 / False Teachers and Rebellion

These false teachers are dreamers, they have no basis in reality.

They are like the wicked people that Paul spoke of in Romans chapter 1, their thinking is vain, senseless and futile.

Romans 1:21

And just like the people described in Romans chapter 1, they defile the flesh. This falls right in line with the sexual immorality that was previously discussed.

They reject authority. In fact, Peter also made the same observations of false teachers.

2 Peter 2:10

Rebellion and rejection of authority is not Biblical. The Biblical attitude is always one of submission. All authority, even the evil ones, are [for reasons we often don’t understand] appointed by God.

1 Peter 5:5

1 Peter 2:13-14

Romans 13:1

Exodus 22:28

As is shown by word and example throughout Scripture, we should always render the due honor and respect to those who are in authority over us.

In fact, we are instructed to pray for those in authority.

1 Timothy 2:1-3

By doing so, our attitude toward them will usually soften over time, which makes honor easier. Plus, praying for them honors them.

We are also admonished to submit to every ordinance of man. It doesn’t matter how much you don’t like a particular law, unless it directly contradicts God’s law, you are to obey it.

Dignitaries is the greek word “doxa” and speaks of glory, splendor, amazing might, honor and greatness.

It is plural, so it’s unlikely that it is speaking of God Himself. The reference here is to angels.

At that time, there were people teaching that lustful indulgence is angelic, and that man should live without restraint.

Of course, we know from the 6th chapter of Genesis that such indulgence is demonic. It is the realm of fallen angels. This is likely the slander of which Peter spoke.

There are many misconceptions and false teachings about angels today, as well.

Angels and demons are much more powerful than we are. When the false teachers dare to slander them, they recklessly dismiss any thought that these demonic forces have power or that their willful sins will open them to demonic attack.

Satan will see a false teaching about angels and demons as the perfect opportunity to attack and control.

The good angels do not take these powers lightly, and neither should we.

Its not our job to accuse, Satan is the accuser!

The apocryphal book “The Assumption of Moses” and Jewish tradition tell us that Michael was sent to bury the body of Moses.

Satan argued with Michael about the body, most likely trying to claim some false authority to bury it, so that he could tell the Jewish people where the body was at.

By doing this, Satan most likely would have enticed the Jews into worshipping Moses, leading them right back into idolatry.

Michael; however, refused to attack Satan. He simply relied on Scripture, and went about his God-ordained business. Michael was quoting Zechariah 3:2

It’s amazing that the mighty angels won’t make accusations before God, but lesser men will. It’s always the littlest dogs that bark the most.

When confronted by Satan, we too need to rely on Scripture, rather than try to fight him.

James 4:7-8

1 Peter 5:8-9

Ephesians 6:11

The message is resistance in faith and The Word. God will fight the battle.

These false teachers act like animals. instead of following God’s will, they follow their own sinful instincts instincts.

Like animals, they act without knowledge, solely on instinct. Without knowledge of God their is no understanding. Knowledge without God is no better than animal instinct.

Proverbs 9:10

Rather than comprehending what was above them (angels), they really only understood what was below them (animals).

If you cannot comprehend the things above, then your life can’t be patterned after those things.

If you can only understand the things beneath you, then those are the things that will influence your life.

Just like an uncontrollable animal, the only way to stop their rampage is to catch and destroy them. That is precisely what God will do! They will suffer as the wage (payment) for their wrongdoing

Yet, Despite the awful consequences, these false teachers take pleasure in their reveling and lawlessness.

They have gone the way of Cain, they are guilty of spiritual murder, leading countless souls to hell.

They have followed after Balaam, by seeking profit and monetary gain rather than the glory of God.

They are like the ones spoken of by the Prophet Isaiah, that call evil good, and good evil.

Isaiah 5:20

They are stains on God’s church, all the while posing as Christians. They are liars! They will sit at the table and eat with you, while they are leading you straight to hell!
