This is the second in a series of messages on the book of Job. This message was delivered at Hillcrest Baptist Church on the evening of February 24, 2013. Job 1:6-22 / The Test
v.6:
Satan is not yet in hell. In fact, he has never yet set foot there.
At this moment, Satan still has access to the throne of God. His expulsion from heaven hasn’t happened yet either.
Satan won’t be expelled from heaven until the second half of the tribulation begins.
Revelation 12:7-9
But now, Satan has wide latitude, and he roams freely.
V.7:
Satan roams about seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5:8
Satan is not harmless or toothless he does not gum Christians to death. He is powerful, and we must understand that.
He uses every opportunity to destroy Christians.
Believers are to resist Satan not try to rebuke him.
James 4:7-10
Even Michael the archangel did not try to take on satan.
Jude 1:9
V. 8:
This was somewhat of a taunting question by God.
Satan had already considered Job, and God knew that, but satan could not touch him because of God’s protection.
Nd what does God say about Job?
V.9-10:
Satan accused Job of being a materialist, only serving God because of what God does for him.
V.11:
Satan then challenges God to afflict job (Satan is still unable to.)
V.12:
God, in turn, tells Satan to afflict Job. It is from God Through Satan (he tells Satan to do it).
God; however, limits Satan’s power over Job.
vv.13-19:
Within moments of each other, Job receives news that all of his possessions are gone, his servants have been killed, and finally that all ten of his children were killed.
V.20:
In all of his affliction, what did Job chose to do? Worship.
Job could have been bitter, he could have cursed God. There are many choices job could’ve made, but he CHOSE to worship.
We often let the emotion of our circumstances dictate our actions, but Job shows us that we can live a godly life under any circumstances.
V.21:
In the midst of losing everything, Job recognized that all he had was ultimately from God.
As such, God had every right to take it away.
What is your attitude toward your possessions? Your family?
Are they gifts from God, that He has the rights to.
V.22:
In all of this, Job did not sin. What a wonderful example.
